The World Federation of Trade Unions, the militant voice of 105 million workers who live, work and struggle in 130 countries of the 5 continents expresses its solidarity with the working class of Sierra Leone who protest against the government’s plans to move a power plant and condemns the police violence against the protestors having as result to kill 5 people.

The demonstrators were protesting against the dismantling of the Makeni thermal power plant in the centre of the country which is the largest city in the Northern Province of this West African nation and the Governments plans to move the city’s electricity supply to support the airport in Freetown.

The demands of the protestors for their daily work with conditions of health and safety are fair demands.

Especially in conditions of the pandemic covid19, we stand by the side of the working class of Sierra Leone and we support their struggles for the protection of their labor rights.

We express our condolences with the families of the victims.

The WFTU is joining its voice with the workers in Sierra Leone and demands the satisfaction of their fair demands. We demand the state violence and the autarcism to stop. The responsible of this crime to be punished.
