The WFTU expresses its sincere condolences for the families and friends of the people who lost their lives by the earthquake in Japan.

Our thoughts are with the people who are injured or suffer from the consequences of the earthquake. Once again the workers, the ordinary people suffer and pay with their lives the lack of safety measures against the natural disasters whether it is an earthquake, flood, heatwave, storm or hurricane.

We demand the prompt review of the safety regulations against natural disasters for the implementation of immediate and adequate measures in Japan in order to ensure that no other lives will be lost.

The protection of the workers and the popular strata is a non-negotiable and the WFTU calls the Japanese workers and trade unions of Japan to join their voice with the class-oriented trade union movement and struggle for the people health and safety in all aspect of the life.
