  • After COVID-19: Status quo or change?

As COVID-19 infiltrates cities and towns one after another, steadily destroying lives in its wake, it is hard not to notice the contradictory nature of the phenomenon: the affliction clearly is global, but there is no effective global system to control it.

  • Iraqi Communist Party: Early elections is people's urgent demand after formation of new government

The new Iraqi government headed by Mustafa al-Kadhimi was finally endorsed by the Parliament in the early hours of 7th May after several weeks of manoeuvres by the ruling blocs and an undeclared US-Iranian consensus. This important development came about more than 5 months after the previous Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi was forced to announce his resignation after a massacre of tens of young protesters committed by security forces in the city of Naseriyah in southern Iraq. Two previous nominees for the post of PM had failed to win consensus among the big blocs that dominate the sectarian-ethnic quota system. The latter attempted to keep Adel Abdul-Mehdi’s caretaker government in power despite fierce opposition from the protesters.

  • Plight of the Poor Aggravated by Coronavirus Pandemic and Government Failure

The Coronavirus pandemic in Iraq has seriously impacted the people, especially the poor. According to the latest official figures, on 24 May 2020, the total number of confirmed cases was 4469, with 160 deaths and 2738 recovered.

The government initially issued health advice and warnings to the public. However, when the Coronavirus was declared a global health emergency by the WHO, and neighbouring Iran became one of the major hotspots of the pandemic, strict measures were imposed, culminating in a curfew. It was partially lifted on 20 April 2020 in preparation for Ramadan, despite a warning from the WHO that the epidemic has not yet reached its peak.

  • The position of the KKE on the "East Med" Pipeline

kke greeceThe ruling right-wing party New Democracy, together with the "left" party SYRIZA, the Social Democratic Party KINAL/PASOK and the far-right party Hellenic Solution, aligning with the dirty plans of the USA - NATO - EU - Israel and having their eye on the "upgrade" of the bourgeoisie of Greece, voted on 15/05/20 in the Plenary Session of the Parliament the agreement for the gas pipeline "East Med" with concise procedures.

  • The pandemic is killing us. So is neoliberalism.

A lot of hope—and rightly so—is being placed in what a post-Trump country and world might look like. And yes, almost anything would be better. (As a popular lawn sign reads, “2020: Any Functioning Adult.”) Proposals for union-friendly organizing rights, student debt relief, a wealth tax, a green infrastructure bill (if not a Green New Deal), a rejoining of the Paris Climate Accord undertaken by a new administration would allow most everyone to breathe a sigh of relief. And breathing, in light of the 90,000 plus dead in this COVID-19 crisis, is not a thing to be taken for granted.

  • Interview: More people are thinking about socialism

The following is an interview by AKEL, the Progressive Party of Working People in Cyprus, with Rossana Cambron and Joe Sims, co-chairs of the CPUSA.

Q: The United States is one of, if not the richest countries in the world and yet it cannot support its health-care system. What’s to blame; is it the fact that the health-care system is mainly in the hands of the private sector?

  • Israel’s Annexation of Palestinian Lands – Disaster for Both Peoples

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced on Tuesday, May 19, his decision to immediately withdraw from all agreements, including security guarantees, between the PLO and Israel and between his organization and the United States, as a result of the Israeli government’s intention to annex Palestinian lands in the occupied West Bank.

Addressing senior Palestinian leadership, Abbas declared that Israel’s unilateral annexation policy constitutes an annulment of the Oslo Accords and that, as a result, “the Palestine Liberation Organization and the State of Palestine are absolved of all the agreements with the American and Israeli governments and of all commitments, including the security ones.”

  • French Communists pay hommage to Ho Chi Minh

  • We Weighed Anchor for Socialism!

May 19th is a symbol. This day symbolises the starting of the anti-imperialist independence war, that took few years, and the effect of which will last much longer.

Since it is a new start, it is associated with youth, and considered as the dawn of Anatolia’s throwing the shackles of sultanate that lasted for centuries.

  • An open letter to all leftists, socialists, and communists

    Dear comrades,

Working people of all backgrounds are uniting around issues such as racist violence,  health care, climate change, women’s reproductive rights, labor and immigrant rights against the neo-fascist Trump agenda. At the same time, thousands of young workers and students have taken to online platforms during the Covid-19 lockdown and are demanding socialist-oriented reforms and even going as far as proclaiming themselves communists, socialists,  and Marxists, in an effort to fight for a better world.  In recent months, the Communist Party USA has experienced an uptick in membership. This growth is occurring as Bernie Sanders has withdrawn from the 2020 presidential race. People are fighting mad—and with good reason.

  • Open letter to all working people from the Communist Party

    Dear comrade, sister or brother,

The Communist Party is writing to you as one of the millions of people whose work keeps our society going in good times and bad.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the value of all those workers who have continued to provide the goods and services that we all need to survive.

  • What the pandemic is teaching us

We learned what Dr. Williams J. Barber II has been preaching: “This virus is teaching us that from now on, living wages, guaranteed health care for all, unemployment and labor rights are not far-left issues but issues of right versus wrong and life versus death.”

Here are lessons we have learned.

  • Towards Swearing-In of New Gov’t, Street Protests Spread Nationwide

During recent days, thousands of citizens of Israel have taken to the streets in numerous and diverse protests, all of them somehow linked to the political, social and economic upheavals so exacerbated by the coronvirus crisis.

Several protests were originally scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday May 13, to coincide with the swearing-in of the new Netanyahu-Gantz government. However, on Wednesday, Trump’s devious consigliere, the ultra-right US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, will be arriving in Israel for a brief visit to confer with Netanyahu and Gantz on Israel’s anticipated annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank. Consequently, the swearing-in of the government has been pushed back to Thursday, May 14, in a sign of deference to the imperial overlords who have promised to recognize yet another breach of international law by Israel.

  • Motorcycle protest of KNE against government bill that destroys the environment

Photo: KNEPhoto: KNEThe Communist Youth of Greece (KNE)held a motorcycle protest in the centre of Athens on Tuesday 5 May, against the despicable bill of the Ministry of Environment, which includes a number of destructive provisions for the natural resources of Greece.

When the protest reached the Parliament building, they put up a banner with the slogan “They destroy the Earth and our lives - Their system needs to be overthrown”. With slogans on the picket signs they were holding and the flyers they were throwing all over the centre of Athens, KNE members denounced this bill by declaring that the “green business” it promotes are sacrificing the environment and the people’s contemporary needs to the business interests and that the liberal ND government is walking the path of the social-democratic SYRIZA by degrading the lives of the people and the youth. They called upon every worker, student and school student of the country to fight for environmental protection because, according to one of the slogans, “the struggle for environmental protection is a struggle against capitalist barbarity, a struggle for socialism”.

  • Amidst COVID-19, CPI Celebrates Victory Day in the Red Army Forest

Every year on May 9, the anniversary of the Nazi Germany’s surrender to the Soviet Union in 1945, the Communist Party of Israel (CPI) marks the defeat of the Nazi forces at the hands of the Red Army. This year, communists and Hadash activist delegations held the annual commemoration of this historic event on Saturday, May 9, in the Red Army Forest near Jerusalem. In Israel, the CPI has for many years stood at the forefront of the commemoration of May 9th – Victory Day over Nazi Germany – even during times in which the Israeli establishment chose to completely ignore this decisive event in human history

  • 1945 and its aftermath – an eyewitness remembers

Communist Party veteran DAVID GROVE remembers celebrating victory over fascism 75 years ago, and asks why the bright promise of 1945 went unfulfilled.

OR anyone, like me, born in the 1920s, the year 1945 was, politically, the most exciting of our lives. And it was probably the most critical year in human history.

Worldwide there was victory over fascism, and in Britain Labour won the general election with a big majority on a radical manifesto.

  • Pompeo to Visit Israel to Meet with Netanyahu on W. Bank Annexation

In challenging times, we stand by our friends, and our friends stand by us.” Alone among all countries around the world, the Trump administration has said it will support the annexation of the Palestinian occupied territory.
