Tel Aviv was painted all the colors of the rainbow on Friday, June 8, to mark the city’s 20th annual Gay Pride Parade. Tens of thousand of persons marched waving rainbow flags of all shapes and sizes in the non-violent demonstration. Among them activists from Hadash, the Communist Party of Israel (CPI) and the Young Communist League marched with red flags and carried banners against discrimination, the occupation and capitalism.

The 2018 Tel Aviv Gay Pride Parade featured a tribute to longtime LGBT activists. Among them were the late Nitzan Aviv, a longtime CPI member and one of the few participants in the first Gay Pride Parade held in Tel Aviv. The official parade kicked off at noon, but was preceded by events on Ben-Zion Boulevard at 10 am. The parade concluded with a massive party at Charles Clore Park, near the city’s Mediterranean shoreline, and continued into the evening.

Next Tuesday, June 12, Hadash will hold a meeting at Hagada Hasmalit (Ahad Ha’am 60, Tel Aviv) at 8:00 pm on “The Jewish-Arab Socialist LGTB Struggle for Equality” moderated by Uri Weltmann and Fadi Da’een.
